Precision Viticulture

Felipe Müller (winemaker at Vina Tabali, Chile) says they practise precision viticulture. They use electrical conductivity of the soil to map vigour. The NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) closely matches the electrical conductivity and by correlating the results of these two factors they can adjust nutrients, pruning, green harvesting and fine tune irrigation. The aim is to get homogenous ripening per block and harvest in precise blocks in order to create wines with the finest tannins.
