Prevention & Control of Vine Diseases
Lamole di Lamole (Chianti Classico) uses more organic applications (certified organic beginning with the 2017 vintage) based on aloe vera, propolis and algae and tries to strictly limit the amount of copper sulfate used in their vineyards. They have a full range of Chianti Classicos (including a very simple ‘white label’ only carried for European grocery stores) which allows more fruit to be used, off-setting the cost of the labor for using organic and natural products in the vineyard. Silver Thread Winery (Finger Lakes, New York) uses JMS Stylet Oil to control powdery mildew and botrytis. They also use Serenade, an organic fungicide whose active ingredient is a strain of Bacillus subtilis, a bacterium known to be agonistic to fungus.
