Chardonnay clone

Mendoza clone is a high quality Chardonnay clone that is widely adopted in New Zealand since it was imported in 1971, many wineries such as Palliser Estate in Martiborough and Felton Road in Central Otago also adopt it. It is also associated with Margaret River such as Vasse Feilx and Cullen. It has small berries with high skin to pulp ratio; in addition, the low yield leading to wine with high concentration of flavour. The 'hen and chicken' characteristic producing wine with natural high acidity from the less ripe 'chicken' grapes. The perfectly ripe golden 'hen' berries provide marked tropical fruit.
