Financial & Commercial Awareness – Australia – Tariffs

Australia exports to China reached AUS $1bn, 12 months ending March 2018. Australia is the 2nd largest exporter to China (behind France). China is Australia's #1 export market, making up nearly half of all exports. This success has been driven by a reduction in import tariffs due to a FTA signed in 2015. Was 2.8% in 2018 and will be 0% starting in 2019 (still have VAT and excise tax). In comparison, French wines and other imported wines have a 14% import tariff in 2019. Australia wines extended their reach to tier 2 and 3 cities and used importers such as COFCO Group, YesMyWine (online sales platform), and ASC Fine Wines e.g Australian Vintage (McGuigan Wines,) and Treasury Wine Estates (Penfolds, Wolf Blass)
